• John (1455 – 1513) King of Denmark (1481–1513), Norway (1483–1513) and as John II Sweden (1497–1501). Also Duke of Schleswig and Holstein (1482–1513) in joint rule with his brother Frederick. Married Christina of Saxony (1461 – 1521) daughter of Ernest, Elector of Saxony.

Christian II (1481 –1559)

• Christian II (1481 –1559) King of Denmark and Norway (1513 –1523) Sweden (1520 –1521). Also Duke of Schleswig and Holstein (1513 –1523) in joint rule with his uncle Frederick. Married Isabella of Austria (1501 – 1526) Archduchess of Austria and Infanta of Castile and Aragon, daughter of King Philip I and Queen Joanna of Castile.

• Frederick I (1471– 1533) King of Denmark and Norway from 1523.  Duke of Holstein and Schleswig (1490–1533) with John I (1490–1513), Christian II (1513–1523), Christian III (1523–1533). Married firstly Anna of Brandenburg (1487 – 1514) daughter of John Cicero, Elector of Brandenburg and secondly Sophie of Pomerania (1498–1568) daughter of Bogislaw X, Duke of Pomerania.

Christian III (1503– 1559)

• Christian III (1503– 1559) King of Denmark and Norway from 1534. Duke of Holstein and Schleswig (1523–1559), with Frederick I (1523-1533), John (1544-1559), Adolf (1544-1559). Married Dorothea of Saxe-Lauenburg (1511 – 1571) daughter of Magnus I, Duke of Saxe-Lauenburg.

Frederick II (1534– 1588)

• Frederick II (1534– 1588) King of Denmark and Norway. Duke of Holstein and Schleswig (1559–1588) with John II (1559–1580), Adolf (1559–1586), Frederick II (1586–1587), Philip (1587–1588). Married Sophie of Mecklenburg-Güstrow (1557 – 1631) daughter of Ulrich III, Duke of Mecklenburg-Güstrow.

Christian IV (1577 – 1648)

Married firstly Anne Catherine of Brandenburg (1575 – 1612) daughter of Joachim Frederick, Margrave of Brandenburg and secondly married morganatically Kirsten Munk (1598 – 1658) Created Countess of Schleswig-Holstein in 1627.

• Frederick III (1609 – 1670)  King of Denmark and Norway. Duke of Holstein and Duke of Schleswig (1648–1670), with Frederick III (Gottorp) (1616–1659), Christian Albert (Gottorp) (1659–1695). Administrator of the Prince-Bishopric of Verden as Frederick II (1623–1629) and (1635–1644) Administrator of the Prince-Archbishopric of Bremen as Frederick II (1635–1645), Count of Oldenburg in personal union (1667–1670) as Frederick I . Married Sophie Amalie of Brunswick-Lüneburg (1628 – 1685) daughter of George, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg.

Christian V (1646–1699)

Duke of Holstein and Schleswig (1670–1699) with Christian Albert (Gottorp) (1670–1695), Frederick IV (Gottorp) (1695–1699), Count of Oldenburg in personal union (1670–1699) as Christian VIII.  Married Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel (1650 – 1714) daughter of William VI, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel . Founder of The Order of the Dannebrog in 1671.

Frederick IV (1671 – 1730)

• Frederick IV (1671 – 1730) King of Denmark and Norway. Duke of Schleswig (1699–1730) with Frederick IV (Gottorp) (1699–1702), Charles Frederick (Gottorp) (1702–1713). Duke of Holstein (1699–1730) with Frederick IV (Gottorp) (1699–1702), Charles Frederick (Gottorp) (1702–1730), Count of Oldenburg in personal union (1699–1730) as Frederick II. Married  firstly Louise of Mecklenburg-Güstrow (1667 – 1721) daughter of Gustav Adolph, Duke of Mecklenburg-Güstrow, secondly married morganatically and commiting bigamy Elisabeth Helene von Vieregg (1679 –1704) Created Countess of Antvorskov in 1703 and thirdly Anne Sophie Reventlow (1693 – 1743)

Duke of Holstein (1730–1746) with Charles Frederick (Gottorp) (1730–1739), Charles Peter Ulrich (Gottorp) (1739–1746), Count of Oldenburg in personal union (1730–1746) as Christian IX . Married Sophie Magdalene of Brandenburg-Kulmbach (1700 – 1770) daughter of Christian Heinrich, Margrave of Brandenburg-Bayreuth-Kulmbach. The Ordre de l'Union Parfaite was created by Queen consort Sophie Magdalene of Denmark and Norway in 1732.

Christian VII (1749 – 1808)

Ceded the County of Oldenburg to Holstein-Gottorp line. Married Caroline Matilda of Great Britain (1751 – 1775) daughter of Frederick, Prince of Wales.

Married firstly Princess Vilhelmine Marie of Denmark and Norway (1808 – 1891) daughter of Frederick VI King of Denmark and Norway  (divorced), secondly Caroline Mariane of Mecklenburg (1821 –1876) daughter of George, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg and thirdly married morganatically Louise Christine Rasmussen (1815 – 1874) created Countess of Danner in 1850.

• Frederick VIII (1843 – 1912) King of Denmark. Married Louise of Sweden (1851 – 1926) daughter of Charles XV of Sweden. Father of Haakon VII (1872 – 1957) King of Norway, formerly Prince Carl of Denmark until 1905.

Christian X (1870 – 1947)

• Christian X (1870 – 1947) King of Denmark. King of Iceland (1918–1944).  Married Alexandrine of Mecklenburg-Schwerin (1879 – 1952) daughter of Frederick Francis III, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Founder of The Order of the Falcon in 1921.

• Frederick IX (1899–1972) King of Denmark. Married Ingrid of Sweden (1910 – 2000) daughter of Gustaf VI Adolf, King of Sweden.

Margrethe II (b. 1940)
