  • William Howard, 1st Viscount Stafford, 1st Baron Stafford (attainted 1680) ( 1614-1680), son of Thomas Howard, 21st Earl of Arundel, married Mary, sister of Henry Stafford, 5th Baron Stafford, created in 1688 Countess of Stafford for life.

Created in1640 with his wife Baron and Baroness Stafford, with remainder to the heirs male of their bodies, failing which to the heirs of their bodies "with a proviso to possess such place and precedency of the Barony of Stafford as well in Parliament, etc., as Henry, late brother of the said Mary, in his lifetime Baron of Stafford ever held or enjoyed". i.e. given the precedency of the Barony of Stafford created by writ in 1299 even though that Barony had been under attainder since 1521.

On the death of the 4th Earl of Stafford the Earldom of Stafford became extinct as did also any rights to the attainted Viscountcy of Stafford, but the right to the Barony of Stafford (cr. 1640) passed, subject to the attainder of 1680, to the heirs general of the body of the 1st Baron Stafford

  • James Howard, 3rd Earl of Suffolk, 3rd Baron Howard de Walden (1620–1689) Earl Marshal.

On his death the Barony of Howard de Walden fell into abeyance between his two daughters and their heirs until 1784, when it was called out of abeyance in favour of Field Marshal Sir John Griffin Whitwell, who was summoned to Parliament as 4th Baron Howard de Walden and was later created 1st Baron Braybrooke.
