By his mistress Martha Janes he left four illegitimate children: 1. John Scrope (d. 1646), 2. Mary Scrope, inherited the Bolton estates (d. 1680), married secondly Charles Paulet, 6th Marquess of Winchester later 1st Duke of Bolton, 3. Elizabeth Scrope, 4. Lady Annabella Scrope, inherited the Langar estates and received a grant 1663 of the precedence and privileges of the legitimate daughter of an Earl (1629–1703), marrried John Grubham Howe, and was mother of Scrope Howe, 1st Viscount Howe.
